It started with pattern construction: the craft of taking a flat piece of fabric and finding exactly where to cut, so it moves the way a real body moves. Get the pattern right, and everything falls into place. Get it wrong, and no amount of fabric saves it.
That's where I learned something most people never do: every problem creates several solutions at the same time. Most people just stop looking after the first one doesn't fit.
At eight, it was fur scraps everyone else called waste. Later, it was a Danish retail chain bleeding 17 million a year, turned into 2 million in profit within two years, before I even had a name for what I'd done. Later still, it was my own fashion label, DesignWerket, built from a single pattern into 160 international retailers worldwide.
